Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale Version 2 Survey
was completed by the middle school teachers from five
selected CCISD middle schools. This survey examined the
teachers' views of participation and involvement in school-
based decision-making. The population for this study was
middle school teachers from Corpus Christi Independent School
District. The sample for the study was teachers from five
middle schools selected as representative of the 11 middle
schools in the Corpus Christi I.S.D. A total of 304 certified
teachers were surveyed out of a total middle school teacher
population of 663 teachers. Two hundred twelve teachers or
70% responded.
Data analysis was accomplished using descriptive
statistics to report results. These statistics included
the mean, standard deviations and frequencies.
Conclusions from the study were: a) Teachers were
involved and participated in school-based decision-making
at higher levels in certain areas than in others, b)
teachers believed they participated more in the technical
domain than in the managerial domain, c) minimal teacher
involvement and participation in certain areas may be
attributable to teachers lack of training to deal with
certain issues, d) opportunities to use professional
judgement may encourage some teachers to participate in
shared decision-making, e) lack of teacher involvement in
decision-making was partly because of dissatisfaction
with the types of decisions made, and f) teacher
involvement in some situations was not permitted due to
factors outside of the school.
