| Summary: | The advent of the digital library poses a great number of challenging research questions in the areas of hypermedia, computer-human interaction, information retrieval, and information science. Choosing a representation for text converted from printed to electronic form for inclusion in the digital library is one of many pressing design problems that will have to be resolved. This thesis identifies and discusses the tradeoffs involved in making this design decision in the context of one likely implementation of the library of the future: the digital hypermedia library. |
