| Summary: | The discovery of high-T, superconducting (HTS) films has made possible a new class of microwave devices, which operate at liquid nitrogen temperatures and above. These devices offer superior performance, low losses and noise figures at slightly higher costs, as compared to the devices available presently. The superconducting films need to be characterized at microwave frequencies to obtain estimates of the performance of devices using these films. A novel test method using a slotline ring resonator has been developed in this thesis to test YBa2CuO7-[] films on LaAlO3 substrates. A full-wave analysis using the Galerkin method of moments has been carried out to obtain the film parameters in an indirect manner. Applications of the HTS films have been proposed and a prototype coplanar waveguide lowpass filter using copper has been fabricated. The filter shows very good agreement between the experimental and the calculated results. |
