Description
Abstract:The nature and extent of structural impacts on party voting in the United States Congress receives limited and incoherent theoretical attention in previous research. Using concepts borrowed from organization theory, such as centralization and formalism, my dissertation addresses this shortcoming in the extant literature. The empirical results indicate that external structural and non-structural factors are much more important than internal factors for determining changes in levels of party voting in the Congress, both in the short-term and over the long-term.
