Description
Summary:In the last few years, the number of firms adopting Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) has grown rapidly, thereby generating new interest in this area. Using a one-day event window, this study examines the wealth effects on stockholders of firms that establish first-time ESOPs. Changes in motivation, risk, diversification, tax liabilities, and the probability of a takeover may explain these wealth effects.
