| Summary: | Apparatus, experimental procedure, and methodology have been developed to determine the mechanical response of reservoir rock. The apparatus is capable of subjecting cylindrical core specimens to triaxial stress states and temperatures representative of in-situ conditions. The experimental procedure and methodology appears to be far less cumbersome, costly, and time consuming than other procedures and methodologies currently used in industry. The apparatus, procedure, and methodology are tested by determining poro-elastic moduli, bulk volume compressibility, and the effective stress coefficient of Berea sandstone. Poro-elastic moduli are determined at several levels of effective stress, including triaxial compression and triaxial extension. The moduli represent average moduli over the stress range for which experimental data were collected. Bulk volume compressibility is determined as a function of effective stress. Results agree well with previously published work. |
