Description
Abstract:Evaluating and improving the performance of higher-level personnel has been a critical concern to organizations for many years, however, there still exists many problems when trying to effectively appraise performance and develop these employees. One of the major difficulties involves determining which aspects of performance to measure. This project outlines an effort to develop and evaluate a taxonomy of job performance for higher-level personnel (Executives, Professionals, and Managers (EPMs)). This taxonomy was developed in a functional Checklist to be utilized by organizations to facilitate the development of more effective appraisal instruments. The use of a mailout questionnaire produced data to answer four research questions. It was concluded that it was possible to develop a comprehensive taxonomy of EPM performance and that this Checklist was clear, understandable and complete. It was also determined that using this Checklist would be a feasible alternative to the methods typically used to select performance dimensions for a performance appraisal instrument. In addition the composition of dimensions selected by the respondents was examined. Finally, suggested revisions to the Checklist were made and next steps were outlined.
