Summary:This thesis explores, through in-depth interviews, some of the issues involved in computer mediated interactive art, issues pertaining both to fine art and to computer technology. Primary sources are interview transcripts and written documents from some artists participating in ACM SIGGRAPH annual art shows from 1988 -1992. Analysis of the material is through interpretation of the thematic material that emerges from the collection of transcripts. By focusing on the significant interactive computer art works recognized in major exhibitions by ACM SIGGRAPH, it is hoped that critical issues of interactive computer can be clarified and current practice enhanced.
