| Summary: | As a result, not only the GOS requirement to users could be guaranteed, but also a high resource utilization in switching nodes can be attained."

| Item Description: | Abstract: "This paper proposes an efficient resource allocation scheme useful for an ATM-based B-ISDN with a large number of connections. In this approach, an information source requests for a new connection based on an optimal lower bound (OLB) of the resources that is necessary to meet its grade of service (GOS) requirement. The OLB could be defined based on different optimization criteria, and it can be calculated for an information source independently. To demonstrate this concept, we solve a bursty traffic model to obtain the profiles of feasible regions for resource allocation. Then, the OLB is derived based on a weighted bandwidth and buffer utilizations metrics, so that disproportional allocation of buffer and bandwidth in switching nodes be reduced." |
