Description
Abstract:The objectives of this study are to develop well-defined mathematical models for hollow fiber bioreactors, which give insight to determine optimal nutrient concentrations, reactor dimensions and cell packings, and to provide a framework for modeling a biochemical network in order to understand the behavior of key enzymes in controlling the pathway flux and concentrations of intermediates. The production of biochemical reactors, hence, can be improved by manipulating the concentration(s) of key enzyme(s) which are controlled by genetic or environmental factors. The structure of analysis of the network breaks down into three major tasks: (1) Modeling of two (radial and axial) dimensional concentration distribution for hollow fiber reactors. (2) Verifying the kinetic data from operating bioreactors. (3) Kinetic modeling of a biochemical network, which includes the steady state and the transient approaches. Computer programs based on the analysis of hollow fiber reactors and the enzyme network provide powerful tools to study the performance of hollow fiber reactors and to identify the key enzymes of the bioreaction system.
