| Abstract: | This research entails the development of an offshore platform removal system model which examines deep water platform removal. The system model outlines offshore platform removal procedures by presenting platform removal stages, conditions, abandonment criteria, options, disposal considerations, and engineering requirements satisfying environmental, legal and political guidelines. Based on systems analysis concepts, the model combines utility assessment theory with process modeling concepts in developing a unique graphical Utility Process System (UPS) modeling technique. Applying the UPS modelling technique to platform removal results in the Platform Removal Utility Process System (PRUPS) model. The PRUPS model was designed as a planning tool for identifying the major decision and evaluation/analysis points of an offshore platform facing eventual disposal. PRUPS assists offshore platform removal planners in deciding on the most efficient and cost effective methods, which are constrained by legal and environmental requirements, for dealing with platform removal. |
