| Abstract: | It is well known that quadratic elements are very important in finite element analysis. However, in many applications, there are needs for globally smooth representation. The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate various aspects of C^1 quadratic finite element construction, analysis, and its application to shape-control interpolation and to the solution of Partial Differential Equations. In particular, we will emphasize the application of the theory of multivariate spline function to finite element analysis. In order to understand C^1 quadratic spline functions and C^1 quadratic elements in a more general setting some general results will be studied. |
