| Item Description: | Pagination irregular, but the text is complete. "A reprint of the Edinburgh edition, for the London publishers: has several typographical errors; among others, in the 'Address to a Haggis, ' the word 'skinking' (meaning watery), is printed 'stinking'. The misprint is also found in a supplementary Edinburgh edition of the same year, and both are known to collectors as the 'Stinking edition'. This is the first London edition of Burns."--J. Gibson, The bibliography of Robert Burns "Advertised in May 1787 (in the London Chronicle), but probably not published till November, or early December, 1787." (J. W. Egerer, "A bibliography of Robert Burns"). List of subscribers: pages xi-xlviii. The Cushing Library/Burns Collection copy has the portrait and half-title, and a faint inscription of Robert Olmstead. Marshall, Stragglethopre, Radcliffe-on-Trent, Notts.; and is inscribed by Will Marshall, 1811 on title page. Glossary: pages 349-372. |
