To the supreame authority of this nation, the Parliament of the Common-Wealth of England : the humble representation and addresse of the prisoners of Lud-Gate, in the behalfe of themselves and others imprison'd for debt throughout the nation : declaring how repugnant it is both to the lawes of God, and to the ancient fundamental lawes of this nation, that mens bodies should be imprison'd for debt, and how contrary our statute lawes of latter times are to Magna Charta, and the old common-law of England : together with some brief observations of the customes of the ancient Romans, Greeks, &c. : as also the present practise and proceedings of our neighbour nations, as Italy, Spaine, Holland, and the vast difference there is between them and us, in the case of imprisonment.
