| Abstract: | The primary purpose of this study was to determine if relationships exist between selected variables and computer attitudes among adult basic education students. More specifically, the study attempted to determine if age, gender, or computer knowledge were significantly related to computer attitudes in term s of anxiety about, confidence in, and liking of computers. This study was conducted on a population of 252 participants from the GED (General Educational Development) programs in the Bryan, College Station and North Harris County areas in Texas. The data were collected from October of 1988 through March of 1989. Data collected were analyzed using the following procedures: (a) frequency distributions were prepared and means and standard deviations were calculated for each measurement variable; (b) General Linear Model (GLM) techniques were used when the dependent variable was continuous and the independent variable was a classification variable; (c) point-biserial correlation techniques were used when the dependent variable was continuous and the independent variable was dichotomous; (d) Pearson Product-moment correlations were used when both the dependent and independent variables were continuous; (e) comparisons between this population and the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) sample were analyzed and plotted graphically; (f) comparisons between this population's characteristics and the characteristics of the NAEP survey by Texas Education Agency were conducted for generalizeability purposes; and (g) reliability and validity of the Computer Attitude Scale were calculated and verified.. |
