| Abstract: | A system was developed for the collection, classification, and tracking of quality activities and related costs. The system includes the classification of prevention, appraisal, and failure costs which reflects the nature of petrochemical phased design and construction. Particular emphasis was placed on structural and miscellaneous steel, piping and welding. The extensive activity lists presented reflect suggested quality cost categories to be used. The forms and databases presented provide a means for the collection and analysis of data related to field changes and deficiencies, punch lists, and welding. The application of this system will provide the user with detailed information, in a readily useable form, for analyzing the causes of quality problems and the economics for determining the cost effectiveness of specific quality improvement programs. |
