Description
Abstract:Purpose. The purpose of this study was to describe and compare three different styles of the karate back punch and side kick. The parameters for he back punch were: force, weight, height, arm length, distance between acromioclavicular joints, arm strength, linear displacement of the hand, final velocity, time, linear displacement of the center of gravity and hip, humerus flexion and horizontal abduction, shoulder rotation and elbow extension. Evaluation parameters for the side kick ere force, weight, height, leg length, leg strength, linear displacement of the foot, final velocity, time, degree of hip and knee extension, the angle of lean of the support leg and the pathway of the knee and foot to the target. Procedure. Three male students who held the rank of at least the first degree of black belt served as the subjects for this study. Three trials of the traditional, modified, and western style back punch, and three trials of the snap side, modified snap side, and the thrust side kick were studied. The subjects were filmed with two BOLEX H-16 cine cameras at a film speed of 64 frames per second. Force measures were obtained through the use of a force measuring device. Conclusions. It was concluded that the western style back punch experts the greatest force, and the traditional style has the least amount of force. The amount of force exerted by the back punch is affected by weight, height, final velocity, movement of the center of gravity, hip movement, and shoulder horizontal abduction..
