| Abstract: | We consider the problem of detection of change in the distribution of sequentially observed random variables. For data observed in groups at each time point, methods of detecting changes in the center of the distribution are explored. A statistic, sensitive to shifts in the center of the distribution and representing a condensation of the observed data, is calculated at each time point. The merits of sing a nonparametric statistic in order to decide if the center of the distribution has changed are explored. The characteristics of decision rules involving a cumulative sum (CUSUM) of all previous statistics and of a moving sum (MOSUM) of most recent statistics are derived and compared. Shifts in the center of the distribution in the form of a step function and a linear trend are considered. |
