Paleozoic origin of the cycads /

Megasporophylls and associated plant parts from Upper Pennsylvanian and Lower Permian rocks of southwestern United States are interpreted as lineage of cycads, derived from pteridosperms. Cycadean foliage is thought to be derived from Paleozoic taeniopterids.
