Description
Abstract:The American military bases in Natal, Brazil during World War II had a tremendous effect on the local economy. During the four years that American servicemen were in Natal, 1941-1945, prices rose more than 100 percent. At the same time, some Brazilians became rich by doing business with the American servicemen. There was also an influence on the language and the society. Many English words were incorporated into the Portuguese language. The most lasting effect was the strengthening of ties between the two countries and an admiration by the local people of American organization.
