| Abstract: | We have constructed a com pact, semiautomated isochoric apparatus, which does not require direct measurements of composition, mass or volume. This apparatus, together with two other apparatus designed for isothermal density measurements, provides experimental information about PVT behavior, vapor pressures, and the location of phase boundaries for condensed phases in mixtures. The new apparatus operates at temperatures from 200-450 K and pressures up to 180 bars. A highly reproducible diaphragm-type differential pressure transducer (DPT) has been designed as an integral part of the isochoric cell, providing pressure measurements precise to ±0.01%. A microcomputer is used to control temperature, record measured temperatures and pressures, process the raw data, and store the information. The overall precision of the temperature measurement is ±0.001 K. The capabilities of the apparatus are demonstrated by means of low-density and high-density isochoric measurements for pure CO2, and vapor pressure measurements for pure CO2 and pure CCI3 F (R -11). |
