| Abstract: | The importance of the three-nucleon problem to understanding the nucleon-nucleon interaction is discussed. The general formulation of the three-nucleon problem is discussed. A reduction of the problem to a coupled set of two-dimensional equations with hard-core potentials is given. Calculations in the two-dimensional formulation are given showing difficulties with the two-dimensional approach. Alternatives are given for a direct solution of the Schrödinger equation with hard-core potentials including a discussion of the problem in three dimensions. |
