Thomas P. Jones, professor of mechanics at the Unitversity of Pennsylvania, founded the American Mechanics' Magazine in 1825 on the model of the London Mechanics' Magazine. It soon became a strong, well-illustrated periodical devoted to the interests of American students of science and mechanics, containing descriptions of recently invented products and manufacturing processes, articles on miscellaneous scientific topics, and meterological tables. zCf.
