| Item Description: | Edited by Archibald Bruce, the American Minerological Journal, which was concerned with minerology, geology, and chemistry, both in the U.S. and abroad, was one of the first specialized scientific periodicals in America. Its contents consisted mainly of reports of scientific observations in various parts of the U.S., many written by such leading contributors as Col. George Gibbs, Dr. W. Mead, Dr. Samuel Akerly, and Professors Benjamin Sillman and Benjamin S. Barton; and of extracts from various printed sources, including the Transactions of the American Philosophical Society, the Philosophical Magazine of London, and the Journal de Physique of Paris. zCf.
