Abstract:The control volume finite element method is applied to transient laminar free convection between vertical parallel heated plates. The results are compared with those obtained from the alternating direction implicit method and the up-wind finite difference method. Heat transfer characteristics are evaluated in terms of Nusselt number. The peculiar velocity profile inside the channel as reported by Kettleborough is verified.
