| Abstract: | The full sixteen element Mueller scattering matrix has been measured for several single NaCl cubic crystals. Each crystal, in the size range .7μ to 1.8μ, was electrostatically suspended in the beam of a 442 mm laser and the matrix measured at scattering angles from 15° to 160°. After measurement the crystal was captured and examined with an electron microscope to determine its exact dimensions. While suspended the crystal was subject to Brownian motion and free to tumble so that the matrix measured represents an average over all orientations, i.e., it is equivalent to a suspension of randomly oriented identical particles. The off-axis matrix elements are small but clearly show size dependent resonances. |
