| Summary: | Throughout a 5,000-year history, Koreans have been known as a peace-loving people. Their country has even been called, "The Land of Morning Calm." In the 20th century, during a period of rapid modernization and Westernization, with major disruptions military, political, economic, and cultural, Koreans have clung to the goal of peace, though it seems to have eluded them, or to have been only partially and fitfully achieved. They are still seeking it. In the long history of Korea, the nation has often been conquered, for it is small; but it has never been subjugated, for its people are proud and stubborn. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Korea's liberation from the Japanese. This is an occasion we want to celebrate with rejoicing. It is also the 25th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. That is an event we want to remember soberly, as a cautionary lesson. For both of these reasons, we are issuing this general pictorial that tried to tell the story of Korea in 1975 for our friends (and anyone else) abroad.
