| Abstract: | The mechanisms of uptake of the previously prepared tumor localizing agent, meso-tetra(p-sulfophenyl)prophine (TPPSv4), for two cell lines grown in vitro, have been partially elucidated. Several differences in uptake kinetics between these cell lines have been observed. Localization of TPPSvv4 in these cells has been determined by cell fractionation, fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy. In vivo tests, on a MSV induced tumor in mice, of TPPSv4 indicates that it is indeed localized in tumor relative to other tissue, except for high levels in the kidney. The significance of the uptake kinetics of the two cell lines in vitro are explained in terms of the in vivo results and the use of TPPSv4 as a localizing agent. The synthesis of a derivative of TPPSv4 and nitrogen mustard (an anticancer agent) has also been attempted. |
