| Abstract: | The purpose of this study was to identify early field experiences and the recommended years for implementation of the experiences in industrial arts teacher education programs. A modified Delphi research technique was utilized to accomplish this purpose. The Delphi panel members consisted of university supervisors for industrial arts student teachers, cooperating teachers from the public schools in the area of industrial arts, teachers who had graduated from industrial arts teacher education programs in Texas within the past three years, and members of the Committee for Certification Requirements and Programs, a standing committee of the Commission on Standards for the Teaching Profession. The panel members generated a list of 58 early field experiences in Round I of the Delphi process. A review of literature identified 23 early field experiences not suggested by this panel; these experiences were included in the Round II instrument. In Round II, panel members were asked to rate the level of importance for each of the 81 experiences and the year recommended for implementation of each experience. The Round III instrument gave the panel members the opportunity to evaluate their responses in Round II with the total panel mean for each experience. Members were allowed to change their responses, if they desired to do so, and could comment on any deviation they had from the panel mean for the experiences. The experiences which were related by the panel as being very important or essentially important were identified. Fifty-nine experiences were recommended as early field experiences for undergraduate teacher education programs in industrial arts. |
