Description
Abstract:A search was made for dual fluorescence in deoxygenated solutions of 1,2,3,4-dibenzanthracene and 1,2,5,6-dibenzanthracene in EPA and n-heptane at 77°K. A nitrogen laser was utilized for excitation and a boxcar average processed the detected emission. Quasilinear spectra were observed for both dibenzanthracenes. No S₂ emission was observed. Coronene was studied in solutions of EPA, n-hexane, n-heptane, n-octane, and n-nonane at 4°K, 77°K, and room temperature. Due to the narrow wavelength band of excitation radiation the n-alkane solutions of coronene did not yield the usual quasilinear spectra but gave essentially one of the two main components. Wavelengths and time-resolved spectra were obtained and no evidence of S₂ emission was found. A search was made for oxygen enhancement fluorescence. Oxygen was introduced into the samples and the spectra were observed at 77°K and at room temperature. The observed fluorescence quenching was studied by timing the decay of prominent peaks in the emission spectra.
