| Abstract: | The primary purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the public school public relations director on the administrative team and the public school public relations director not on the administrative team. The populations of this study consisted of public school public relations directors selected from the 1979 NSPRA membership directory. The sample was made up of 152 randomly-selected members of the population. Of the 152 in the sample, 137 returned the questionnaire and 120 provided usable responses. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed using the computer programs, DISTAT, ANSCHEFF, and chi-square. The differences in the qualifications of team and non-team members were in educational background and teaching experience. Team members had more years of education and teaching experience than non-team members. The differences in team responsibilities were substantial between the two groups. There were 33 responsibilities ranked differently by team members and non-team members, with team members having the largest number of administrative responsibilities. Differences between public relations directors with administrative certification and those without administrative certification were noted in 12 of the team responsibilities. The size of the school district where public relations directors were employed affected only one team responsibility: that of consulting and maintaining close liaison with the news media. |
