Abstract:Purpose [line break] The purpose of the study was to develop and assess the effects of an in-service curriculum for Wake County, North Carolina, elementary classroom teachers on the topic of "Industrial Arts for the Elementary Grades." The resulting study included lesson plans, a teacher handbook, evaluation instruments and other resource materials for implementing the curriculum. [Line break] Procedure [line break] The procedure utilized in developing, implementing, and evaluating the in-service curriculum follows: 1. Review of the literature. 2. Development of the in-service curriculum. 3. Production of necessary software and hardware for the curriculum. A. Development of test instruments to assess the cognitive and affective behaviors of the participants, an inventory to collect demographic data, and a program survey instrument. 5. Pilot test and revise the curriculum and data collection instruments. 6. Present the in-service program. 7. Secure and analyze the data. 8. Presentation of results. [Line break] Conclusions [line break] Based upon the findings of this study, the following conclusions were offered: 1. The participants experienced a significant improvement in attitude toward industrial arts type activities for the elementary grades. 2. The participants experienced a significant improvement in knowledge related to industrial arts type activities for the elementary grades. 3. There was no correlation between the improvement in cognition and the improvement in attitude of the participants regarding industrial arts for the elementary grades. ...
