Description
Abstract:This dissertation is concerned with the derivation of the distributions and moments of several compartmental systems with time-dependent transition probabilities. The particular systems considered are (1) the two-compartment irreversible system, (2) the n-compartment irreversible catenary system, (3) the n-compartment irreversible mammillary system and (4) the two-compartment reversible catenary system. Some general comments are also made concerning general n-compartment irreversible and reversible systems. In most cases, the distributions are obtained under two sets of initial conditions; (1) the distribution of the number of particles initially in the system is known and (2) the actual number of particles initially in each compartment is known.
