| Abstract: | The primary objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics, opinions, and facility preferences of Texas hunters. A secondary objective was to compare the Texas data wit like data from other states. The population studied was the group of 767,842 persons that purchased a Texas resident hunting license for the 1971-72 hunting season. A self-administered questionnaire was mailed to 3,942 individuals (0.5 percent of the population) in the systematic sample. Two mailings produced 1,581 usable questionnaires, representing a 46.4 percent response (0.21 percent of the population). Telephone interviews of a 10 percent systematic sample of non-respondents were conducted, and it was determined that the non-respondents did not have characteristics significantly different from respondents to the mail questionnaire. The data collected in this investigation were analyzed and printed as 132 frequency tables. These table described the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the respondents and identified their opinion and facility preferences. All tests of significance between data obtained in this investigation were made by means of t-tests and chi-square analyses. ... |
