| Abstract: | Purpose of research. The objective of this study was to design a course model in computer graphics for the post-secondary schools of Texas through a survey of industry, educational institutions, hardware manufacturers, and personal contacts with individuals working with computer graphics. Procedure of research. A survey instrument was designed to appraise the current needs of industry in the area of computer graphics. Instructional topics were evaluated according to their occupational value in industry through the opinions of industrial personnel involved in computer graphics. The instructional topics were based on information obtained from hardware manufacturers and from educational institutions. Data was collected from 159 firms through the use of the questionnaire. The information gathered from the survey instrument, hardware manufacturers, and educational institutions resulted in a core of subject matter used in the course model. The course model was tested in the classroom and was revised resulting in a suitable model for teaching a basic computer graphics course. The course model is devoted to the fundamentals of programming a computer graphics system rather than extensive exercises in using "canned" routines. ... |
