520 3 |a The modification of the backflow cell model to describe the transient and steady state operations of an air-water-carbon dioxide absorption column was the objective of this study. The experimental data consisted of transient gas and liquid concentrations from several points within the packed section of the column for three liquid flow rates. The axial mixing parameters were determined by simulations with the backflow cell model of the experimental step responses of argon for the gas phase and pulse responses of sodium chloride for the liquid phase. The mass transfer of parameters were determined by fitting the transient responses of carbon dioxide gas concentrations and of liquid pH values from several points along the column. ...
