Abstract:The Antlers Formation is a thick section of terrigenous sediments that forms the basal unit of a major, transgressive sequence of Early Cretaceous age in west-central Texas. The Antlers is a highly quartzose unit, consisting of sandstone and conglomeratic sandstone with interbedded mudstone, siltstone and conglomerate. The Antlers Formation is formed by the coalescence of the Hensel Sandstone of the Trinity Group and the Paluxy Sandstone of the Fredericksburg Group, beyond the updip limit of the Glen Rose Limestone. The Antlers uncomfortably overlies rocks of Late Paleozoic age and is both interfingering and conformable with carbonates of the overlying Fredericksburg Group. ...
