Abstract:	A taxonomic study of the genus Amblyomma (Acarina: Ixodidae) in North and Central America has been conducted, in which the genus, as currently interpreted, is divided into three genera, Amblyomma Koch, 1844, Haemalastor Koch, 1844 (resurrected), and a new genus. Also, species-groups (not of nomenclatural standing) are proposed within these genera. The North and Central American species of these genera are: Amblyomma americanum (Linnaeus, 1758), A. auriculare (Conil, 1878), Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricus, 1787), A. calcaratum Neumann, 1899, A. coelebs Neumann, 1899, A. imitator Kohls, 1958, A. inornatum (Banks, 1909), A. maculatum Koch, 1844, A. mantiquirense Aragao, 1908, A. oblongoguttatum Koch, 1844, A. ovale Koch, 1844, A. nodosum Neumann, 1899, A. pacae Aragao, 1911 A. parvum Aragao, 1844, A. parvum Aragao, 1908, A. pecarium Dunn, 1933, A. tapirellum Dunn, 1933, and A. varium Koch, 1844; Haemalastor geayi (Neumann, 1899) (=A. gaeyi Neumann, 1899) and H. longirostris Koch, 1844; in the new genus are assigned A. crissum Robinson, 1926, A. dissimile Koch, 1844, A. humerale Koch, 1844, A. rotundatum Koch, 1844, A. sabanerae Stoll, 1890, A. scutatum Neumann, 1899, and A. tuberculatum Marx, 1894. ...
