| Abstract: | The primary purpose of the study was to administer and evaluate a 10-hour series of group experiences designed to increase the empathic understanding of counselor trainees. Two secondary purposes of the study were to determine if the trainees' level of education within the graduate program affected their derived benefit from the group process module of experiences and to determine if any of the pretest personality variables were related to posttest empathy. An experimental and control group of nine counselor trainees each were randomly selected on the campuses of three different Texas universities. Each group was stratified and contained three trainees in the initial stage of counselor preparation, three at an intermediate level, and three who were about to complete their training. For analysis the experimental and control groups from the different campuses were combined, respectively, to form one EG and one CG. |
