Description
Abstract:The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the career guidance component of a career education program. Subjects in the study were the 1973-74 freshman class of West Orange (Texas) Junior High School. The experimental group consisted of five homerooms of that school while the control group consisted of an equal number of homerooms. Students and teachers were randomly selected to be in the experimental and control groups. The treatment consisted of three sets of activities entitled Knowing More About Self, Knowing More About Jobs and Combining Knowledge of Self and Jobs. The Career Maturity Inventory (CMX) was used as a pre- and post-test measure. The four hypotheses in the study were: 1. There will be no significant difference between male students and female students in pre-test to post-test scores on the Career Maturity Inventory. 2. There will be no significant difference between black students and white students in pre-test to post-test scores on the Career Maturity Inventory. 3. There will be no significant difference between gifted students and non-gifted students in pre-test to post-test scores on the Career Maturity Inventory. 4. There will be no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in pre-test to post-test scores on the Career Maturity Inventory.
