Description
Abstract:Excitation energies of low-lying states in ¹⁴⁰Pr and ¹³⁸La excited by the (p,d) reaction at 30 MeV were measured. The results in MeV for the first six states in ¹⁴⁰Pr are: g.s., 0.027, 0.194, 0.294, 0.339, and 0.432. For ¹³⁸La, the results in MeV for the first nine states are: g.s., 0.070, 0.114, 0.160, 0.194, 0.232, 0.424, 0.493, and 0.530. Angular distributions were measured and l transfers to theses states determined by comparisons to DWBA calculations. Little mixing was observed in the ¹⁴⁰Pr states, whereas, strong mixing appeared in the ¹³⁸La states. Tentative total angular momenta were assigned to the states in ¹⁴⁰Pr on the basis of the simple shell model theory and tentative assignments were made to the states in ¹³⁸La through a comparison with theoretical calculations. The results for states in ¹⁴⁰Pr in order of increasing excitation energies are: 1⁺, unresolved 2⁺ and 3⁺, no assignment, 3⁺, 4⁺, and 2⁺. For the states in ¹³⁸La, the results in order of increasing excitation energies are: 5⁺, 3⁺, 2⁺, 2⁺, 3⁺, 4⁺, 4⁺, 3⁺, and 4⁺.
