Abstract:The purpose of this study was to develop techniques for the study of intestinal microflora in avian species, and to compare the intestinal microflora of turkeys challenged with infections enteritis agent with uninoculated control turkeys. The infectious intestinal material was obtained from the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Public Health, University of Minnesota, St. Paul. This material was maintained in the virulent state throughout the experimental period by serial passage through day-old turkey poults. The turkey poults used in this experiment were obtained from a breeder flock which was tested serologically and found free of typhoid, pullorum, and Mycoplasma gallisepticum infections. ...
