Description
Abstract:A combination of the sonic diffuser and plasma jet theories has been formed into a theory that explains the behavior of a plasma injected axially into a cylindrical magnetic field. The theory utilizes the plasma properties - density, temperature, and velocity - to predict the streaming or stagnation in critical magnetic fields in accordance with Tuck's criterion. However, the theory embodies the fact that a highly directed plasma velocity is not the only requirement necessary for streaming to occur in a converging magnetic field.
