| Abstract: | A literature review tracing the evolvement of the American pen-raised chinchilla was conducted; it indicated that there have never been three distinct species of chinchillas in the United States, brevicaudata, lanigera and costina, as the chinchilla breeders have indicated. The chinchillas of Chile; costina or lanigera, evolved over the y ears due to environment and appeared to be a crossing of the species according to phenotypic description in the literature. ... |
