| Abstract: | The objective of this research was to evaluate activities implemented under Title One, Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, Public Law 89-10, as they affected the academic achievement of pupils in the Lufkin Public Schools of Lufkin, Texas. Specifically, the objectives were: 1. To evaluate a program designed to decrease the teacher-pupil ratio during the reading readiness program for beginning first grade children and planned to assure each child more individual instruction by a professionally certified instructor. 2. To investigate and make a comparative analysis of the effects of the Orff-Kodaly Music for Children Program on the over-all academic progress as well as reading achievement of its participants. 3. To study and evaluate a Home Consultation Program designed to initiate positive attitudes toward school and to contribute to improved progress in academic achievement for those who are participants. 4. To obtain predictive data relating to the effect a clinical program has upon selected pupils with marked reading deficiencies. 5. To investigate progress of secondary aged pupils involved in a clinical reading program and collect comparative data concerning these and other retarded readers assigned to special reading teachers using traditional methods and stationed on the Junior High campus. ... |
