Description
Abstract:This research describes the preparation of several new organophosphorus compounds. The e.s.r. (electron spin resonance) spectra of the radicals formed by the reaction of these and other organophosphorus compounds with alkali metals at low temperatures have been observed and interpreted. The most meaningful observations which have been made from the spectral measurements are the following. 1. The formation of the naphthalene radical anion by the reaction of tris(1-naphthyl)phosphine with sodium in THF. 2. The formation of 1,1'-binaphthyl by the reaction of tris(1-naphthyl)phosphine with lithium in THF or DME. 3. The formation of perylene by the reaction of tris(1-naphthyl)phosphine in THF with the product formed from the reaction or molten lithium with glass. 4. The formation of the contact ion-pair between two moles of diphenylphosphine lithium by the reaction of diphenyl-1-naphthylphosphine with lithium In THF or DME. ...
