Lymphocytes from these animals did not incorporate ('3)H-thymidine at significantly greater levels than control animals when exposed to soluble antigens of B. abortus. Bovine lymphocytes sensitized to Brucella abortus were exposed to immune complexes containing soluble B. abortus antigens. The incorporation of ('3)H-thymidine was inhibited in sensitized bovine lymphocytes cultured simultaneously with B. abortus antigens and phytohemagglutinin. The kinetics of this inhibition were examined and mechanisms which may explain such inhibition are discussed. Agglutination of latex particles coated with human IgG by bovine sera suggested the association of a rheumatoid factor with bovine brucellosis. The role and significance of rheumatoid factor production in bovine brucellosis are discussed. Evidence is presented suggesting a role for the rheumatoid factor test as a predictive test in brucellosis research. Attempts to isolate the rheumatoid factor were unsuccessful. Neither precipitation in the presence of chelating agents at low strength nor an affinity chromatography procedure were successful in isolating bovine Clq.
