520 3 |a The microbial pest control agents Heliothis NPV and Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner were studied to determine the efficacy and the effect on the non-target component of the cotton ecosystem. The study was conducted in the Matagorda county area which is geographically located along Texas' Upper Gulf Coast. This study utilized large-scale tests over two growing seasons. Ground and aerial applications of the microbial agents were made and comparisons were made to untreated areas, and to standard chemical treatments applied similarly. Data collections were made by observations on: 1) crop phenology and damage; and 2) the non-target arthropod complex. Efficacy of the microbial agents was proven and the effect on the non-target arthropods was not disruptive. The relative distribution of the non-target component of the cotton ecosystem was also described, occurring similarly during the two very different growing seasons.
