| Summary: | "In January 1930, a group of Baptist laymen met in New York City at the invitation of philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, Jr. to hear an address by John R. Mott, chairman of the International Missionary Council. Out of this meeting grew a plan to conduct and finance an intensive, objective study of the efficacy and value of foreign missions in Asia. Other denominations were invited to join the study, and ultimately seven chose to participate: Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., Reformed Church in America (Dutch Reformed), United Presbyterian, Methodist Episcopal, Congregational, Protestant Episcopal, and Northern Baptist. The study that was carried out became known as Laymen's Foreign Missions Inquiry (LFMI)."
